City Collaborates to Overcome Tidal Flood in Coastal Area of North Jakarta

Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts highest sea level in North Jakarta coast will occur in December 2021. Therefore, Jakarta Government continues to ensure tidal flood handling runs optimally.

After high tides occurred on Monday (12/5), we will face another two high tides on Thursday (12/9) and Saturday (12/11)

North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana Hakim mentioned that all parties had anticipated the arrival of rainy season.

"Currently we are consolidating because efforts have been made, so we need to check and coordinate," he said in a meeting to anticipate rainy season with City Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimko) at North Jakarta Mayor's Office, Tuesday (12/7) as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

Tidal Flood on Jalan Lodan Raya has Receded

According to him, sea level will reach its highest point on Saturday (12/11). Therefore, his side appealed to prepare equipment and personnel, as well as continuous monitoring in collaboration with various parties.

"After high tides occurred on Monday (12/5), we will face another two high tides on Thursday (12/9) and Saturday (12/11). I want related UKPDs, such as BPBD, SDA, and Gulkarmat to monitor. We also ask help from three pillars to assist," he stated.

He hopes that in the future there will be no casualties due to tidal flood in North Jakarta. "The most important thing is that the community is facilitated. Even though there is no evacuation, all kinds of collaborative assistance are sought to be given directly to the community," he asserted.

Moreover, he also ensured stationary pumps, mobile pumps, and floating pumps in tidal flood points were in prime condition. North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency also monitor water levels regularly every 30 minutes at Marina Sluice Gate, Asin River, and build embankments using sandbags in several points, such as Jalan R.E. Martadinata, around Muara Baru, and Sunda Kelapa Harbor.

As well as deployment of cross-OPD officers that should be carried out for evacuation process, evacuation location, social assistance, post-flood cleaning, traffic management to coordinate with local sub-district heads thus resident's activities can still continue.

"Never let your guard down. After (tidal flood) recedes, channel should be cleaned immediately, thus water can flow well towards the sea. We will use pump to drain the remaining flood water in basin areas," he conveyed.

Prevention of large-scale tidal flood is also being carried out by building coastal embankment in collaboration with Central Government through Ministry of Public Works Public Housing (PUPR) and Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency.
